The Economy, Business and the 10-Point Duterte Agenda

The economic growth in the past six years have been unprecedented.  Key achievements such as the attainment of the Investment Grade status and the increase of investments across the sectors in the country are seen by the local and international investment communities as validations of a good long term sustainable growth.  The recent change in administration particularly its 10-point economic agenda have allayed fears of a slowdown and a focus on continuity.

As the Duterte Administration journey into the next six years, our economists at the Ateneo Center for Economic Research and Development (ACERD) have been looking at the different facets of sustaining growth. In particular, Dr. Lanzona will look at the gaps that were left unchecked by the past administration that led to the victory of President Duterte. He will also highlight on what the new administration needs to do to respond and ensure the gaps do not repeat. Dr. Dumlao will provide the perspectives on the economic numbers. He will provide key assumptions and possible directions of key macroeconomic variables such as prices, interest rates, employment, foreign exchange and the expected growth numbers in the next two years. Finally, Dr. Habito will provide the perspective on the economic aspects of the 10-point economic agenda. He will juxtapose the gaps and the key assumptions into the broader context of the Philippine economy as it looks at the impacts of Brexit, the UN Decision on the West Philippine Sea and the proposed federalism.
