Session 1:  Corporate Governance in a Digital Environment

Digital transformation is inevitable; no sector or organization is immune from the digital phenomenon. The training aims to inform the participants to look at digital transformation in relation to how an organization is managed and how it communicates with its stakeholders. It will also challenge the participants to look at digital transformation/technology not as a goal but as a strategy.

Session 2: Embedding Sustainability as a Core Capability

The "Embedding Sustainability as a Core Capability" course is designed to empower individuals and organizations with the knowledge, skills, and tools to integrate sustainability principles into their business strategy, core operations, and decision-making processes. The course will provide an understanding of sustainability concepts, practical strategies for sustainable practices, and methods to foster a sustainability-oriented culture within organizations. Participants will gain insights into global challenges, environmental and social impacts, and the business case for sustainability.

Session 1:  Corporate Governance in a Digital Environment

Atty. Guadalupe Lyn P. Vergel currently holds the esteemed position of Head of Compliance and Government Relations at Xendit, a leading regional fintech company. In this role, she spearheads strategic initiatives in compliance and engages with government stakeholders to ensure regulatory adherence and foster positive relations.

Prior to her role at Xendit, she served as the Chief Compliance Officer for Globe Fintech Innovation ("GCash"), Regional Compliance Head for North Asia, China & the Philippines at MoneyGram International. Additionally, she served as the Compliance Officer for Privacy and was a Member of the Board of Directors of its Philippine subsidiary. 

Before venturing into fintech, her career included serving as an associate at law firms in the Philippines and Mayer Brown JSM in Thailand. Her role as Securities Counsel at the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission showcased her expertise in regulatory matters.

Her commitment to excellence extends beyond her professional roles into various affiliations where she actively contributes to industry development and good governance: President and Trustee of the Association of Remittance Company Compliance Officers-Philippines (ARCCO) , Vice President and Trustee, Corporate Secretary of Good Governance Advocates and Practitioners of the Philippines, Faculty Member at the School of Law and Governance, University of Asia and the Pacific, Lifetime Member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and Member of the Compliance and Ethics Committee, Philippine Life Insurance Association.

She is a highly qualified legal professional, holding a Bachelor of Laws and Economics from the University of the Philippines. Complementing her academic achievements, Guada pursued a Certificate Course in Strategic Compliance in Banking Industry from DLSU-ABCOMP in 2014. She is also Certified as a Data Privacy Officer with NPC ACE Levels 1 and 2.

Mr. Roberto T. Bascon Jr. is a seasoned professional with a diverse background in corporate governance, finance, and strategic leadership. He is currently serving as an Independent Director at Templetech Finance Corp. (Tendopay).

In his concurrent role as Director of Research & Development at the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) in Makati City, he is instrumental in developing and enhancing globally competitive programs and courses. He plays a pivotal role in maintaining the quality of the Institute's content through meticulous research and development. Leading initiatives to elevate corporate governance standards in the Philippines and ASEAN, Roberto promotes internationally recognized best practices.

He served other roles such as Operations Director at Caffrey Trading Corporation, Director of Corporate Governance Analytics at Institute of Corporate Directors, Co-Chairman of the Protecting Minority Investors Task Force at the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA).

As a resource person for the Insurance Commission (IC) Task Force on Code of Corporate Governance, he contributed valuable insights to the review and development of a corporate governance code. Additionally, he served as a discussant and resource person for the International Finance Corporation (IFC) in Vienna, Austria, providing expertise on developing corporate governance scorecards.

Mr. Bascon holds affiliations with the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) and Good Governance Advocates and Practitioners in the Philippines (GGAPP), showcasing his commitment to professional development and advocacy. His credentials include a Business Sustainability Management certification from the University of Cambridge, Institute of Sustainability Leadership, and certification as a Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) trainer in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He is also a graduate of the Palladium Kaplan-Norton Strategy Execution Certificate program in Melbourne, Australia, and holds a BS in Business Administration, Major in Management, from the Asian Institute for Distance Education (AIDE) in Makati City.
